Harvey Dickson 50th Anniversary Celebration | Boyup Brook
September 28 @ 11:00 am - 11:00 pm AWSTFree – $30.00
Double Barrel Entertainment are helping celebrate 50 years of country music at Harvey Dickson’s Country Music Centre.
A brief history on how it all began
One night in 1969, a few blokes were standing around a campfire and had an idea – to bring country music to the town of Boyup Brook. From small beginnings, this idea has gone on to shape the town and take it from a small farming community to a haven of country music in the southwest.
From the old Dickson’s chaff shed turned barn, the first show was held.
Barry Barron helped organise it.
Errol Meredith played some music.
They called in some contacts and organised a few bands from Perth.
The first show attracted over 250 people from neighbouring towns. The following year, word had spread and the show was moved to the Garden to accommodate everyone. For the next 20 years, Harvey Dickson’s reputation for hosting quality country music events grew and along with it, the need for a dedicated stage.
In 1985, the first show in the new Entertainment Venue was held. This event celebrated the Dickson’s arrival in Australia 100 years before and was the first Boyup Brook Country Music Show – now recognised as WA biggest annual country music event, and held at Boyup Brook football oval due to its size.
The Dickson’s continue to lend their name and reputation to secure the best talent in Australian country music. Legends such as Lee Kernaghan, Adam Brand, Toni Childs, Adam Harvey, Becky Cole, Jeana Jefferies & Casey Chambers, have all made the trip down south to share their talent and bring together people from all over the state.
This year sees the 50th anniversary of the Harvey Dickson Country Music Centre. To help commemorate this magnificent milestone and to say thank you for all of Harvey’s hard work, Double Barrel Entertainment are proud sponsors of the following event:
